Educational Enhancement was founded in 2002. In 2020, the Cornovirus (COVID-19) forced all of us to adapt to new schedules, new lifestyles, and new normals. Educational Enhancement is the first CASAC online credentialing self-study program. However, our NYS OASAS certified trainers are available to motivate you toward your goal and answer all your questions along your journey to becoming a Credentialed Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC). Educational Enhancement is an approved OASAS and NAADAC Education Provider.
CPP & CPS
In our communities, there is a growing threat of challenges – violence, harmful illicit drug use trends, crime, untreated physical and mental illnesses. Research has shown that these challenges and the damage they create can be prevented. Presently, America and 22 other countries have education and prevention service programs. However, these programs need well-trained, culturally competent certified prevention specialists to ensure the ethical operation and effective outcomes of these services. What is a CASAC?
A CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) is a professional who specializes in helping individuals struggling with alcoholism and substance abuse issues.

How To Become A CASAC?
To become a CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) in New York, you’ll need to follow specific steps and meet certain requirements.
To qualify as a CASAC, the following prerequisites must be met:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Possess a High School Diploma or its equivalent (HSE)
- Complete 350 hours of CASAC Education and Training by an OASAS-approved education provider.
- Reside or work in New York State for over half of the active application period.
- Obtain evaluations from two individuals based on CASAC’s Ethical Principles
- Accumulate a minimum of 6,000 hours (~3 years) of supervised work experience in an authorized setting; this includes at least 300 hours dedicated to practical training within core competencies.
- Complete an educational program with no less than 350 clock hours and meet one-time mandatory requirements.
- Undergo and pass a criminal background check.
- Succeed in an OASAS-approved examination.
- All these conditions are checked during the application process.

I found the CASAC training to be not only interesting but informative and helpful. I love the recovery field; therefore, I enjoy learning and did well with the training. As a visual learner, I respond well to visual teaching; therefore, the pre-recorded videos and added resources benefited me. I could download the workbooks and follow along with the videos while taking notes. I also liked repeating the questions in the final exam because the repetitive question from previous tests helped me learn.
